“Creating jewellery is the fizz inside my being”

Welcome to my Sassy World

Creating jewellery is the fizz inside my being and I make pieces every day inspired by the natural world around me. I love the magic of finding old and unloved jewellery, taking it apart and creating something new. A fabulous and unique piece that will look amazing on my wonderful customers, I love knowing that it will be cherished for many years to come.

I find the philosophies and designs of William Morris inspirational and have his quote on my studio wall, ‘Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.

Ever since I can remember I have enjoyed making things and being immersed in nature. In my teens I made my own clothes and jewellery, using hand dyed bed sheets and vintage beads.  After studying fashion and textiles at Plymouth School of Art I moved to Manchester with my young son, Alex, to study Print Management at Manchester Poly. I returned to Devon after graduating and have spent the past 25 years working in scientific publishing.

I have always recycled and created crafts for my home and for the past five years have focused on jewellery making, teaching myself new skills and new techniques. My passion for upcycling jewellery initially started as my own unworn pieces had been discarded in my jewellery box for some time. I loved the beads, colour or texture but not the style, so reimagined them into something new for me to wear.

I love the creative process of dismantling a piece of jewellery into its constituent parts and then re-combining it into new and exciting designs. Realising there must be lots of unworn jewellery being thrown away or left unloved and forgotten I wanted to salvage and reimagine as much of it as I could.

I began to source these lost treasures and upcycle them into new and beautiful creations that I wanted to share with all of you. So, I started to sell my pieces in craft fairs around Devon and now online. Hopefully you’ll find something fabulous that you’ll love too.

Using the opportunity to take redundancy in 2021, a very scary move, I was finally able to run Sassy Upcycling full time. Although challenging and difficult, it’s also been one of the most amazing and wonderful experiences of my life.

Nature still plays a huge part in my life and my creations. Every day I take a moment to myself and walk the hills around my Devon home, watching the world around me change through the seasons, inspiring me with its colours and beauty. This inspiration breathes new life into my creativity that I hope shines through, and helps inspire you as-well.

Sassy Upcycling, let`s repurpose and reimagine all our unloved jewellery so it can shine once again.
